Barely missing the first day of Spring (March 20!), Andrea Chung’s video Come Back to Jamaica opens today at the Jones Center as part of our ongoing LIFT Projects. The video is a observation on the social depiction of Jamaica in the years following the postcolonial period and investigates the relationship between American tourists and the island’s natives. By manipulating images appropriated from an 80s ad campaign, literally “whiting out” the native subjects, Chung creates a satrical commentary on the unbalanced relationship. The video will be on display until April 29th, so be sure to stop by and check it out!
New LIFT video!
