Young Artists learn some skills!

Last Saturday, Young Artists had an art-based skills workshop. These exercises introduced the students to college-level art lessons. We began by making exquisite corpses, which the students had a blast creating as each person added to the drawing before them without knowing what was on the other side of the folded page. The young artists designed some eccentric creatures!

Next, the students participated in gesture drawings. As time elapsed the drawings got quicker and quicker, moving from four minuets to ten seconds! The students were vigorously drawing away and learned how to render a figure’s full expression. By the end of this exercise the student’s sense of line improved.

Our last task was creating sculptures with string, ribbon, and tape. With these simple materials the students were pushed to use space and think three-dimensional to produce something spectacular. These young artists constructed some surprising pieces and got a chance to critique each others work.

Below are some pictures from our workshop:

Due to spring break, our next class is in a couple weeks. We will be partnering up with our neighbors the Lomography Gallery Store and the students will be able to try out their cameras!
