Young Artists recently participated in a workshop with local graffiti artist Nathan Nordstrom, “Sloke.” In this workshop students learned about the basic components of creating indivualized tags, “signatures,” using elements of outline, fill, perspective, drop shadow, and double outline. The students were challenged to evaluate and analyze how letters are written, even dabbling into Typography! Nordstrom explained that most graffiti begins with a name, so the students were encouraged to display their personal style through their own name or an important word. After making thumbnail sketches they were ready create their personal board using markers and acrylic paint.
The students had some impressive work and had a blast learning about the various aspects of graffiti art!
